The new academic year in junior and senior secondary schools, begins with five day long recurring strikes, beginning from September the 16th. The final decision is expected to be taken today by the teachers unions. The Federation of Secondary Education servants, meets today to finalize the form of their demonstration and protest, as with an overwhelming majority the primary unions, and the local unions, have decided for a sturdy answer, to address the government’s policies.
The Government spokesman, Simos Kedikoglou, addressing the teachers, in a morning broadcast at ANT1 television, said» «The Greek families have already too many burdens, so let us not add one more».Simos Kedikoglou, reiterated that the government, does not intend to proceed to the arbitrary recruitment of teachers, as announced yesterday by the Minister of Education Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos.

Despite government assurances that no further measures will be taken, the troika will now be imposing new measures of at least 4 billion euros for 2015-2016, and «corrective» interventions to the budgets of 2013 and 2014. The technocratic teams – precursors to the troika leadership’s arrival in late September – will be showing up during the week with a particularly rich agenda. Discussions for a new loan and a new memorandum are not ruled out. The technocrats are expected to focus on the implementation of the 2013 budget, the problems posed by reshuffling in the public sector, health expenditures, and the mergers or outright abolition of public organisations spearheaded by the defence industries.

Greek defense industry employees (EBO – PYRKAL) protested today outside the Ministry of Finance. The protesters are opposed to defense industry restructuring plans, which they believe will result in lay-offs.

Worker unions are organising a press conference tomorrow at the Athens journalist’s union building in light of unfolding developments on the issue of LARKO. They will present for the first time all the critical evidence and documents concerning the economic and national scandal of LARKO’s attempted dissolution. The press conference will be preceded by a rally at 10:30AM in Omonia Square.

On the public sector lay-offs front: 12,500 public employee job cuts must be added. On the privatisation front: workers are protesting over the future on EAS, ELVO and LARKO. The Greek Rail issue has not been much publicised out of sheer randomness.

The deputy prime minister and minister of Foreign Affairs, Evangelos Venizelos is meeting with the Special United Nations Mediator, for the issue of Skopje, Mathew Nimetz. Mr. Nimetz, is in our country, for a three day trip to Athens and Skopje, aiming to continue the dialogue, in order for a mutually acceptable solution to the issue of the Name of Former Yugoslavic Democracy of Macedonia to be found.

All opposition leaders, will visit Salonica this week. Today and until Thursday, the president of Independent Greeks Panos Kammenos. The president of DIMAR, Fotis Kouvelis, will be in the city on Wednesday, and Thursday, and on Friday and Saturday, the general secretary of the Communist Party of Greece Dimitris Koutsoumpas will visit. Mr. Tsipras, will visit Salonica again the 13th, 14th, and 15th of September.

A lawsuit against public officials for alleged false information issued by the Minister of Justice, Charalambos Athanassiou, on the case of the «escape» 502 «street children» from the “Agia Varvara» foundation prosecutor was filed yesterday at the Supreme Court by the Greek Helsinki Monitor. According to the lawsuit, all attached information issued by the Minister to MP Maria Giannakaki (on the 2nd of September, 2013) and to the Standing Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice of the Hellenic Parliament (on the 4th of September 2013) is incorrect. The Commission considers therefore that the Minister has received false information. The lawsuit described in detail all the inaccuracies in the documents submitted by the competent authorities. The Prosecutor General is committed to take all necessary action regarding this case, which involves the Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs, and the Police.

Traffic on the Patra-Athens-Thessaloniki motorway came to a halt for one hour following the collision of a lorry with a private car in the valley at Tempi. The accident resulted in five injuries.

The suicide rates in Greece have doubled, during the years 2009-2011, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority, the Ministry of Citizen protection and Eurostat. Specifically, while in the past our country held one of the lowest positions in the world rankings for suicides, with an index of 2.5 per 100.000 population, with the new calculated data, up to the end of 2011, this percentage is bigger than 5 people per 100.000 residents, with a ration of 6 to 1 successful attempts of men versus women. Overall, the number of suicides in this three year period, amounts to 1.245.
From January until August of 2013, there has been 231 recorded suicides. The statistical data of the last two years, during which the Greek population faces the severe impact of the economic crisis, have not yet been published. However, according to the Athenian and Macedonian Press Agency, the recording network of Suicide Prevention Center, has recorded 231 suicides, from January to August 2013. The disclosure of data, by the World Health Organization (WHO ) and the International Cooperation for the Prevention of Suicide , on the occasion of the «World Suicide Prevention Day» , is shocking! One person commits suicide every 40 seconds around the world , with a total of one million people commiting suicide every year.
The indicator of » global » mortality rate is 16 per 100,000 people.

Tonight, the committed of Agia Paraskevi residents, organizes a musical event, with Katerina Tsiridou, and Kostas Skondras, in folk and rebetika music. and Manoliw Papadomarketakis and his group, at a musical trip to Crete.

Three full months on Wednesday September the 11th, since the government’s decision to shut down ERT. A big concert, will be held at the yard of ERT in Agia Paraskevi, starting at 7.30 pm and lasting until the early hours of Thursday. ERT has been and will remain OPEN.
